For Goodness Sake, Get Angry

As a Democrat I’m trying hard to deal with my disappointment and anger. I’m disappointed in the President and with Democrats in the House and, particularly, in the Senate. I am angry at the way Republicans have said No to everything and absolutely refused to compromise. There’s a lesson there for Democrats.

I always thought Mrs. Reagan’s “just say no” policy for drug use was silly but apparently such an approach reaps benefits in politics. At least, they appear to be standing up for what you believe in!

As a Democrat, I don’t want a 3,700 page health care insurance reform bill. What I want is a single payer, Medicare-type health care insurance system for all. A plan that will dramatically reduce costs, eliminate multi-million dollar, middle men program administrators and deliver reasonable care.

As a Democrat, I don't want to continue ridiculous tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. I want the rich to begin paying something close to their fair share. Such tax breaks, while adding to the deficit Republicans claim to be so afraid of when it comes to assistance for people without a job, has never created a job in history according to Robert Reich and other experts. I'm perfectly willing to pay additional taxes to assist in deficit reduction as long as the rich do as well if that is what it takes to thwart the Republicans.

All the conservatives I know are angry and unhappy. They appear to be angry because they have to pay federal income taxes for anything other than adventurist wars overseas and unhappy about everything else having to do with government and politics.

Well, my contention is that it wouldn’t hurt the Democrats to get a little angry themselves and stop compromising their principles. They are not getting half a loaf; they are not even getting the crumbs!
